Crystals are recognized by their highly ordered, consistent and stable molecular structures:
Seven crystalline structures determine which “family” a crystal belongs to (Triclinic, Monoclinic, Orthorhombic, Tetragonal, Trigonal, Hexagonal, Cubic) identified by reference to their lattice structure. In crystal healing some minerals are also used which are not actually crystals and have an amorphous structure, such as amber and opal.
A rating against the MOHS scale https://www.britannica.com/science/Mohs-hardness determines how hard the crystal is (diamond being the hardest at 10, Quartz 7, Calcite 4, Talc 1, etc.)
During a crystal healing, Jo will have taken the attributes of each crystal into consideration when selecting what seems best suited to her client. Different crystals have also historically been attributed with energy “qualities” through thousands of years of observation (e.g. quartz is generally regarded as a “high and fast” energy; whereas agates are attributed with a subtler, slower moving energy). Crystals are also typically attributed as “grounding” (such as schorl or carnelian), “energizing” (such as apophyllite or quartz), “protective” (tiger’s eye), or attracting (citrine), etc. Choosing crystals with these commonly agreed attributes and effects still needs to be a process of careful and intuitive discernment on a case by case basis which forms part of any healing session with Jo.
Crystal healing works with the vibrational energy and properties of each crystal’s molecular structure to influence or complement the individual’s own natural energy fields and energy flow. Jo will typically focus on the areas within the body – called chakras – where energy circuits converge and can become blocked or over-active. Selected crystals resonate with the client’s own energy and help to clear and bring the flow of energy into alignment with the rest of the body. In doing so, Jo helps to remove blockages so that a client can feel better physically and emotionally; and more able to move forward in life. One session may be all that is required to re-set or influence energy flow but most people find 2 or 3 helpful.
